THE VISITORS CENTER/OFFICE BUILDING

visitor center renderingThe Visitors Center within the developing Community of East Twin Lakes is located on the north side of Colorado State Highway 82, 0.65 miles west of Junction of U.S Highway 24 and Colorado 82.  The visitors’ center will provide information on area Master Plan, early history of gold placer mining and water developments, available real estate and the potential for new business opportunities. The facility will be available for scheduled quasi public meetings of the two property and home owners associations, the local mutual water company and select organizations.

It is anticipate that construction of the 4800 square-foot building will be complete by year end of 2007.

Visitor Center Floor PlanDid you know that the East Twin Lakes area:

  • Was home to the first settlement in the Upper Arkansas Valley in 1860
  • Was the home of the longest continually operated gold placers in Colorado and possibly in the nation by 1902, and placer mining for gold is still taking place in 2007.
  • Was the site of the first sawmill in the Upper Arkansas Valley in about 1866 and it was powered by water from Twin Lakes via Lower Lake Creek through the Mill Ditch.
